Commanding. RON 40 was commissiond
with twelve Patrol Torpedo Boats, sequen-
tally numbered Joy-oUu.all oU-foot Eico'S.

sioned because
of the high number
Droced. but rather as complete squadrons Squadron was shortened to "RON")
RUN 40 was assigned to the PacifIc
Fleet. Southwest Pacttic and was trans-
ported to the Philippines in mid-1945. The
squadron arrived too late to see action, and
was decommisisoned December 21. 1945
Presumablv. their boats were among the Zl
PTs burned as surplus in the Philippines in November and December 1945.
PT boat squadron patches are very
scarce todav. There were fortv five PI boat
squadrons in WWII (RONs 1-45; RONs
44-45 had insignia, but were not commis-
sioned and not all had distinctive squad-
ron insignia. This RON 40 patch 1S large
and fully embroidered.
