The 158th Infantry Regiment was origi-
nally an Arizona National Guard unit, part
of the 45th Infantry Division.
It was re-
lieved from the 45th early in WW I, and
fought as a regimental combat learn during
The regiment trained in Panama prior
lo being assigned to the SWPTO.
The
158th participited in assaults at New Brit-
din, New Guinea, Hollandia, Noemfoor Is-
land, and in The Philippines, receiving
credit for Ince campaigos. It was a diverse
unit in that it included soldiers from sex-
cral different American Indian trbes.
